Billy Monger is a British racing driver, broadcaster and endurance athlete who has defied extraordinary challenges to continue competing at the highest level. After a life-changing crash at Donington Park in 2017, he lost both legs but returned to racing within the year, becoming a trailblazer for disabled drivers in motorsport. His determination led to changes in FIA regulations, allowing him and others to compete in Formula 3 with adapted controls.
Starting his career in karting and progressing through Ginetta Juniors and British F4, Billy had established himself as a rising star before his accident. Refusing to let his injuries define him, he secured a race win at the 2019 Pau Grand Prix and built a career as a respected analyst for Channel 4’s Formula 1 coverage. In 2018, Billy was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award, recognising his outstanding achievements in the face of adversity.
Beyond motorsport, he has completed gruelling endurance challenges, including breaking the Ironman record for a double amputee at the 2024 World Championship in Hawaii. His efforts in Billy’s Big Challenge raised over £3 million for Comic Relief, demonstrating his relentless drive to push limits and support others.
Billy’s story is about resilience, adaptability and an unshakable commitment to his ambitions. Whether competing on the track, conquering endurance feats or sharing insights with global audiences, he continues to inspire through his actions and mindset.
