Ellen White MBE is a former English professional footballer who played as a forward and is the record goalscorer for the England women's national team. She began her career at Aylesbury Town before being scouted by Arsenal at the age of eight. After progressing through the youth ranks, she left Arsenal for Chelsea, then moved to Leeds Carnegie, before returning to Arsenal in 2010. During her time with Arsenal, she won three league titles and two FA Cups.
Following her successful stint at Arsenal, Ellen joined Notts County and later Birmingham City, where she scored the winning penalty to secure a place in the 2017 FA Women’s Cup Final. She then signed with Manchester City, becoming the second player in Women’s Super League (WSL) history to reach fifty goals and eventually the all-time top scorer in the league.
Ellen has had a significant international career, representing England at three FIFA Women’s World Cups and several major tournaments, including the 2012 and 2020 Olympics. She became England's all-time top World Cup scorer at the 2019 tournament and earned the Bronze Boot award. Ellen has been named England's International Player of the Year three times and was part of the Lionesses team that won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022.
In 2024, she was the first female to score in the Soccer Aid tournament. Ellen announced her retirement from professional football in August 2022, expressing her desire to support the next generation of players. She is now a sought-after speaker, sharing insights on achieving peak performance in sports and inspiring young female footballers.
