Dr. Rumman Chowdhury is a leader in the field of artificial intelligence and its ethical implications. She focuses on applied algorithmic ethics, developing solutions for ethical, explainable, and transparent AI. Rumman contributes to discussions on responsible technology, with articles published in the Atlantic, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, MIT Technology Review, and VentureBeat.
As a data scientist and social scientist, Rumman is the CEO of the tech nonprofit Humane Intelligence, which fosters a community for evaluating AI models. She also serves as the United States Science Envoy for Artificial Intelligence and is a Responsible AI Fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society.
Previously, Rumman led the ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team at Twitter and was the Global Lead for Responsible AI at Accenture Applied Intelligence. At Accenture, she designed the Fairness Tool, an industry-first algorithmic tool for identifying and mitigating bias in AI systems, and co-authored a Harvard Business Review article on its impact.
Rumman is committed to nurturing technology-forward companies that promote the responsible use of emerging technologies. She founded the Parity Responsible Innovation venture capital fund and mentors at the Creative Destruction Lab. Additionally, she is a board member of Startups and Society.
Engaged in global AI policy, Rumman serves on the board of the UK Center for Data Ethics and Innovation and on UNESCO’s Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development. She has advised various organisations, including the UK House of Lords Parliamentary group on AI, the FTC, and the UN.

Rumman earned two undergraduate degrees from MIT, a master’s in Quantitative Methods of the Social Sciences from Columbia University, and a doctorate in political science from the University of California, San Diego.
