Anthony Grayling CBE, MA, DPhil (Oxon) FRSL, FRSA is a Master of the New College of the Humanities and a Supernumerary Fellow of St Anne's College, Oxford. He was previously a Professor of Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London, until 2011. Grayling has authored and edited over thirty books, including "The Good Book", "Ideas That Matter", "Liberty in the Age of Terror", and "To Set Prometheus Free".
He wrote the "Last Word" column for the Guardian and contributed to the Times and various other publications such as the Literary Review and New Statesman. He frequently appears on BBC Radio. Grayling writes the "Thinking Read" column for the Barnes and Noble Review and serves as Editor of Online Review London and Contributing Editor for Prospect magazine. He has been involved with several academic journals and was the Honorary Secretary of the Aristotelian Society for nearly a decade. He is a past chairman of June Fourth, a human rights group focused on China, and represents the International Humanist and Ethical Union at the UN Human Rights Council.
He is a Vice President of the British Humanist Association and a patron of various organisations, including Dignity in Dying. Grayling has been a Fellow of the World Economic Forum and served on its C-100 group. He has held positions as a Trustee of the London Library and a board member of the Society of Authors. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Society of Arts. Grayling has judged several literary prizes, including the Man Booker Prize in 2003 and 2014. He supports charities such as Plan UK, Greenpeace, and Amnesty International and sponsors Rogbonko School in Sierra Leone. His latest works include "War: An Enquiry" and "Democracy and its Crisis".
