Al Murray, comedian and awards host, is best known for his character 'the Pub Landlord'. He gained fame through his work on Time Gentlemen, Please, and has hosted shows like Happy Hour and Live At The Apollo. After studying History at Oxford, he collaborated with other comedians in the Oxford Revue and wrote for Week Ending and Spitting Image before starting his solo career. Al supported Frank Skinner on his world tour but later sought a change from his sound effects-based act. His breakthrough came when he met Harry Hill at a Radio 4 meeting, leading to his role as compere in Hill's Edinburgh Show 'Pub Internationale', where he developed the Pub Landlord character. In The Harry Hill Show, he also appeared as Alan, Harry Hill's big brother.
Al has been nominated for the Perrier Award multiple times and won it with a show focused on the Pub Landlord. This success resulted in stage productions such as And A Glass of White Wine For The Lady, My Gaff, My Rules, Who Dares Wins, and the television series Time, Gentlemen, Please. His television credits include Comic Relief, Taskmaster (2018), Al Murray: Why Does Everyone Hate the English (2018), and Why Do Brits Win Every War? (2021).
In 2023, he co-wrote Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical, which premiered in Birmingham before moving to London's West End. In 2015, he announced the formation of the "Free United Kingdom Party" (FUKP). He ran for the South Thanet seat against UKIP leader Nigel Farage in the general election, using his Pub Landlord persona.
