Brian Blessed OBE is an actor, presenter, and voice artist, recognised for his unmistakable voice and larger-than-life presence. With a career over six decades, Brian has brought unforgettable characters to life across television, film, and theatre. His remarkable performances in productions such as I, Claudius, Blackadder, Flash Gordon, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats have made him a household name.
Born in Yorkshire to a coal miner and cricketer, Brian's early life was shaped by modest beginnings and strong family bonds. He discovered his passion for performance at a young age, leading him to study at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Following national service in the RAF, his acting career took flight with his breakout role as PC “Fancy” Smith in Z-Cars. He has since portrayed iconic roles, from Shakespearean figures to sci-fi legends, showcasing his extraordinary range.
Brian has voiced numerous iconic roles, from Boss Nass in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace to the villainous Clayton in Disney’s Tarzan.
