Carme Artigas

Carme Artigas is a Spanish executive and entrepreneur known for her expertise in Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and technology innovation. She co-founded Synergic Partners, a pioneering Big Data company in Europe, and served as its CEO until it was acquired by Telefónica. From 2020 to 2023, Carme held the position of Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in Spain. She also led the National Cybersecurity Institute and the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence. Carme is an ambassador for the Women in Data Science conferences at Stanford University and a member of Columbia University's Data Ideas Factory innovation network. She was appointed co-chair of the AI Advisory Body of the United Nations, focusing on international governance of AI. She coordinated negotiations for an Artificial Intelligence Act to regulate AI at the European level during Spain's presidency of the Council of the European Union. With over 25 years in the technology sector, Carme has been recognised as one of the top women in data globally. Her work aims to position Spain as a leader in digital transition and technology transformation. Carme is a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center and a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. She has received several honours, including the Great Cross of the Military Medal and the title of Lady of the Imperial Hispanic Order of Charles V. She was named one of Forbes’ 100 most influential women in Spain. She has also been acknowledged by Insight Success as one of the 30 most influential executives with international impact. Carme's talks address the effects of technological change on businesses and society, covering topics like big data and AI. Her insights inspire professionals both nationally and internationally. She has taught in master's programmes on technology and innovation and has played a key role in shaping AI regulations in the European Union.
