Howard Goodall CBE is a composer known for his work in musicals, television, film scores, orchestral and choral music, as well as being a music historian and broadcaster. His notable television and film contributions include Mr Bean, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Q.I., Johnny English, and The Vicar of Dibley. In 2009, he won a Primetime EMMY for Original Dramatic Score for his work on the HBO film Into the Storm. His music has been commissioned for various national ceremonies and memorials, with choral pieces like The Lord is my Shepherd and Love Divine being widely performed and featured on several platinum-selling CDs. His work, Eternal Light: A Requiem, has seen over 700 live performances globally since its premiere in 2008 and earned him a Classical BRIT Award for Composer of the Year. Enchanted Voices, a setting of the Beatitudes, topped the Specialist Classical CD chart for six months and won a Gramophone award. In June 2012, his Rigaudon was part of the New Water Music for Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Regatta, and he was responsible for Rowan Atkinson's performance at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. On 4th August 2014, his choral work Sure of the Sky-Des Himmels sicher was performed at St Symphorien Military Cemetery to commemorate the start of the First World War. Other significant choral works include Every Purpose Under the Heaven: The King James Bible Oratorio (2011), Invictus: A Passion (2017), and Unconditional Love: A Cantata of Gratitude & Remembrance (2021). Over the past 20 years, he has created and presented a TV documentary series on music theory and history, receiving a BAFTA and numerous international awards. Recently, he has served as England's first National Ambassador for Singing and Classic FM's Composer-in-Residence. Howard is also an engaging speaker on music education and musical theatre, available for live appearances and events.
