Li Jin Hao's biography

At a glance

  • Best Newcomer at the 2025 Chortle Awards
  • BBC New Comedy and Edinburgh Comedy Award finalist
  • Sold-out Soho Theatre run, Swimming in a Submarine

Li Jin Hao is a UK-based stand-up comedian, writer, and actor known for a surreal, quietly commanding style shaped by his upbringing across China and Singapore as well as his national service in the Singapore Army.

He won Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards 2025 and was a finalist for the BBC New Comedy Award, the Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Award, and the Edinburgh Comedy Award for his debut hour, Swimming in a Submarine. He has also appeared on Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping and written for the sketch series Icklewick FM.

Jin Hao's comedy blends dreamlike storytelling with unhurried, controlled delivery, moving from spider nightmares to yakuza fantasies without ever losing the room. The Guardian called his debut show a dizzying trip to the deep underwater unknown, and fellow comedians have likened his sensibility to Noel Fielding and Stewart Lee filtered through his own East Asian influences.

Audiences can expect a set built on vivid, controlled storytelling, the same qualities that carried three sold-out weeks at Soho Theatre and a run at Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Jin Hao's tightly structured, image-driven style rewards close listening, turning odd personal details into a fully realised comic world by the time the set ends.

Book Li Jin Hao for a set that turns a room's attention into laughter and leaves a lasting impression.

If you can, please include your budget upfront – it helps us fast-track your request. It’s also helpful to know the date, format (virtual or in-person), location, and about your audience.

What is Li Jin Hao's speaking style like?

Li Jin Hao builds his sets around vivid, image-driven storytelling, threading personal material — spider nightmares, yakuza fantasies, military service — into a single, tightly structured comic world that resolves fully by the close. His delivery is unhurried and controlled, rewarding close listening as each odd detail accumulates into something coherent and distinctly his own.

What topics does Li Jin Hao specialise in?

Li Jin Hao performs stand-up in a surreal, storytelling format, with his debut hour Swimming in a Submarine drawing on his upbringing across China and Singapore and his national service in the Singapore Army. He won Best Newcomer at the 2025 Chortle Awards and was a finalist for the BBC New Comedy Award, the Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Award, and the Edinburgh Comedy Award, with the show running for three sold-out weeks at Soho Theatre.

Does PepTalk charge a booking fee?

No. PepTalk adds no booking fee, so you pay the speaker's fee and nothing beyond it. The service, from shortlist through to contracts and event-day logistics, is included. For repeat or multi-event bookings, PepTalk can agree preferential rates with your procurement team.

What happens after I send a brief?

Share your event date, audience, format, objectives and budget, and PepTalk sends a hand-picked shortlist within 24 hours. Each suggestion comes with a profile, a fee and a recommendation on the strongest fit. Once you choose, PepTalk handles contracts, travel and logistics through to event day.

What does the typical fee range mean?

The typical fee range is the speaker's standard in-person fee in their home market, shown in their local currency. It moves with format, location, date and session length: virtual sessions and shorter slots usually cost less, while international travel and peak dates cost more. Send your brief to PepTalk and the team will confirm the exact fee in your currency.

Have all the speakers on the website worked with PepTalk before?

Not all of them, and it makes no difference to your booking. PepTalk's network of 15,000+ speakers covers talent the team works with directly alongside speakers represented by agents and agencies worldwide. PepTalk approaches the speaker, negotiates the fee and handles contracting either way.

How far in advance should I book a speaker?

Three to six months ahead is comfortable for most events, and 12 months is better for large conferences, peak-season dates or one specific in-demand speaker. Shorter timelines are workable, and PepTalk regularly fills last-minute and replacement bookings within days. Availability is the constraint, so get in touch as soon as you have a date.
