Mike Soutar has spent a career navigating the critical junctures between success and failure, bringing real-world leadership insights to life with clarity and honesty. With a background spanning journalism, media, entrepreneurship and advisory roles, he offers audiences battle-tested strategies for building resilient teams and businesses in a rapidly evolving world. Beginning his career writing horoscopes for a local magazine in Dundee, Mike’s journey saw him ascend through some of the UK's most recognisable media brands. He played a pivotal role in transforming Kiss FM’s fortunes as Managing Director and led market-defining publications like Smash Hits and FHM to peak success during the 1990s. His entrepreneurial drive led him to co-found Shortlist Media in 2007, growing it from a five-person start-up to a major media group employing over 200 people, and achieving a significant sale just eight years later. Mike’s ability to lead through uncertainty and turn ideas into thriving ventures has also been reflected in his roles as a board director, non-executive advisor and trustee across industries ranging from fintech to cultural institutions. Known to millions for his forensic interviews on BBC One’s The Apprentice, he has spent over a decade analysing business ideas and leadership traits under pressure, earning a reputation for incisiveness and rigour. Today, Mike continues to champion British business as a member of the Government’s Board of Trade and serves as a mentor to the next generation of leaders. With three decades of experience across media, entrepreneurship and corporate governance, he brings an unflinching yet practical perspective to leadership, decision-making and resilience in business.
Book Mike Soutar for your event to gain insights from a seasoned entrepreneur and media leader. Mike Soutar speaks on leadership and decision-making, entrepreneurship and building resilient businesses, and navigating risk and pressure. No. PepTalk adds no booking fee, so you pay the speaker's fee and nothing beyond it. The service, from shortlist through to contracts and event-day logistics, is included. For repeat or multi-event bookings, PepTalk can agree preferential rates with your procurement team.
Share your event date, audience, format, objectives and budget, and PepTalk sends a hand-picked shortlist within 24 hours. Each suggestion comes with a profile, a fee and a recommendation on the strongest fit. Once you choose, PepTalk handles contracts, travel and logistics through to event day.
The typical fee range is the speaker's standard in-person fee in their home market, shown in their local currency. It moves with format, location, date and session length: virtual sessions and shorter slots usually cost less, while international travel and peak dates cost more. Send your brief to PepTalk and the team will confirm the exact fee in your currency.
Not all of them, and it makes no difference to your booking. PepTalk's network of 15,000+ speakers covers talent the team works with directly alongside speakers represented by agents and agencies worldwide. PepTalk approaches the speaker, negotiates the fee and handles contracting either way.
Three to six months ahead is comfortable for most events, and 12 months is better for large conferences, peak-season dates or one specific in-demand speaker. Shorter timelines are workable, and PepTalk regularly fills last-minute and replacement bookings within days. Availability is the constraint, so get in touch as soon as you have a date.
