Nick Butter knows how to dream, train, plan, and achieve. Through broken bones, muggings at gunpoint, being locked up, attacked, bitten by dogs, shot at, tears, fears, failures, and suffering, this man persevered and demonstrated incredible resilience to accomplish his dream. He became the first person to run a marathon in every country. On November 10th, 2019, Nick successfully ran a full marathon in every country, completing this monumental task in just 23 months. Throughout his journey, he travelled alone with his bag for 674 days, running 2 or 3 marathons in 2 or 3 countries every week for 96 weeks. This incredible world record resulted from over 45,000 miles of running in previous expeditions, years of training, and numerous setbacks.
Following this accomplishment, Nick established The 196 Foundation, a world-leading charity based on a 'democratic donorship' system. This unique approach involves small donations of just £1.96 per month from many individuals, who can choose which cause they wish to support each year. Nick's book, Running The World, quickly became a bestseller and is currently being translated into multiple languages. An audiobook and documentary are in the works, set to be released later this year. While Nick's passion for running is evident, his meaningful messages extend beyond athletics. His inspirational topics cover many subjects, including understanding one's potential, embracing failure, perseverance and determination, and appreciating our limited time. Nick brings these issues to life through his personal stories with enthusiasm and character.
Although Nick is primarily a runner, his messages resonate with people from all walks of life. He is not on a crusade to get everyone into lycra; he aims to spread the message that anyone, regardless of age, background, or commitment, can excel in any endeavour they set their minds to.
