Rob Shanahan's biography

At a glance

  • 30 years as photographer to rock stars including Ringo Starr and the Rolling Stones
  • Creator of The ICONS Blueprint leadership framework
  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted photography author

Rob Shanahan has spent more than three decades as personal photographer to some of music's most enduring icons, including Ringo Starr, the Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney.

A professional drummer of 35 years, Rob has photographed hundreds of performers, including Christina Aguilera, Sammy Hagar, Sheila E., Elton John, Aerosmith, and Luke Bryan. He is the author of two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted photography volumes, with forewords by Ringo Starr and Sheila E. Rob is also a certified YPO speaker who has addressed organizations including Ideagen, CenturyLink, and Lumen.

That decades-long access gave Rob direct insight into how elite performers sustain excellence under pressure. He built those observations into The ICONS Blueprint, a leadership framework covering resilience and reinvention, team synchronization, and clarity of purpose. Rob now translates the discipline behind legendary performances into practical lessons for business audiences navigating high-stakes environments.

Audiences leave with a clearer sense of how to adapt after failure, synchronize teams the way a tight rhythm section operates, and build the daily habits that sustain long-term success. Through cinematic visuals and firsthand stories from the music industry, Rob makes those lessons memorable and immediately actionable.

Rob turns three decades of backstage access into a leadership story that resonates with any team chasing peak performance.

The ICONS Blueprint

Rob Shanahan spent three decades as personal photographer to icons like Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Christina Aguilera, and the Rolling Stones, watching firsthand how elite performers sustain excellence under pressure. Drawing on those relationships, Rob shares The ICONS Blueprint, a framework built around imagination, self-challenge, seizing opportunity, resilience, and disciplined habits. Through never-before-heard stories and striking visuals, he shows sales teams, executives, and creatives how to move from individual performers to a fully synchronized team.

Why we recommend booking Rob

Rob's ICONS Blueprint gives audiences a concrete framework rather than just entertainment, which works well for sales kickoffs and leadership offsites. His three decades photographing music's biggest names also make him a strong fit for VIP receptions and executive gatherings.

Testimonials

His Keynote was the most genuine, interesting, entertaining, captivating, and memorable one I have ever heard in my 30+ years working for Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies. I highly recommend him for any corporate, not-for-profit, or industry event. He will captivate your audience, and they will never forget their experience. It is not the "same old, same old" your audience has come to expect. This is by far something so special and so much more!

Rob is an amazing presenter! Rob's presentation to my United World College students was insightful and inspiring! They loved how he envisioned his life as a teenager, knew what he wanted, and went for it, achieving all that he has achieved, including his fabulous work in Africa. What Rob shared with my students was important and, in some cases, pivotal as they embarked on their own life dreams. What he gave to them is priceless.

Rob connected with us, but most importantly, he connected with our audience, and they are still talking about it. Best event we've ever had, and he was a core part of all of it. Totally rocked it as expected!
