Stuart Maconie is a well-known TV and radio presenter, journalist, columnist, and author. He hosts a weekend morning show on BBC Radio 6 Music with Mark Radcliffe from 8 to 10 am. His latest book, The Full English, follows the journey of J. B. Priestley in his 1930s work, English Journey, as Stuart explores contemporary England. The book was named The Times' Book of the Week and became a Sunday Times best-seller. In his previous book, The Nanny State Made Me, he reflects on the Welfare State's impact through his childhood experiences in the sixties and seventies, alongside interviews with its beneficiaries. This edition has been updated to include events since March 2020. In 2017, he commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Jarrow march by retracing the route, resulting in the book The Long Road from Jarrow, which spent five weeks on The Sunday Times Best-Seller list. The Observer praised his work, noting his humour and insight. Stuart has authored several other books, including Pies and Prejudice, Adventures on the High Teas, The Pie At Night, and The People's Songs, which ties in with a Radio 2 series. He is a Mastermind Champion, achieving the highest celebrity score in Modern British Poetry from 1900. He participates in Radio 4's Brain of Britain, hosts the quiz My Generation, and has won Pointless Celebrities twice. In addition to his broadcasting career, he enjoys fell-walking, is a northern soul enthusiast, and has published poetry. He once shared a van with the band Napalm Death.
