Tape Face's biography

At a glance

  • Silent comedian performing with tape over mouth
  • Finalist on America's Got Talent in 2016
  • Las Vegas residency performer at MGM Grand

Sam Wills, known as Tape Face, is a New Zealand comedian who performs entirely without words, using only props, physical comedy, and a strip of tape across his mouth.

Sam became a finalist on America's Got Talent in 2016, where his performances earned over 220 million views online. He has won the Billy T Award, one of New Zealand's highest comedy honors, and performed at the Royal Variety Performance. Since 2018, he has held a residency in Las Vegas, currently at the MGM Grand.

Tape Face transforms everyday objects into unexpected comedy moments. He pulls audience members into absurd scenarios involving staplers, wooden boards, and random household items, creating visual gags that need no translation. His silent approach means the comedy works across language barriers, relying on timing, expression, and the element of surprise. Each show builds from simple sight gags to increasingly elaborate sequences that blend mime, clown traditions, and prop manipulation.

The silence creates an intimate connection that makes people laugh without knowing what will happen next. His comedy offers a break from language and logic, replacing words with pure visual invention that appeals to adults and children alike.

Tape Face brings original, family-friendly comedy that works for any audience, anywhere in the world.

Time Out

It's a pleasure to see great vaudevillian routines reinvented and invested with real personality…. Wills is the last word in silent comedy.

The Guardian

Tape Face's command of his art form is truly masterful... will fill you to the brim with childish glee.. will leave even the most stone-faced grown up grinning like a kid at Christmas.

How do I book Tape Face for my next event?

If you can, please include your budget upfront – it helps us fast-track your request. It’s also helpful to know the date, format (virtual or in-person), location, and about your audience.

What is Tape Face's stage presence like?

Tape Face performs entirely without words, building each show from simple sight gags into increasingly elaborate sequences that blend mime, clown traditions, and prop manipulation using everyday objects such as staplers and household items. He draws audience members into the sequences directly, creating visual comedy that relies on timing and physical expression rather than language.

What topics does Tape Face specialise in?

Tape Face performs silent, prop-based stand-up and audience participation comedy suited to corporate events, family audiences, and international gatherings where language-neutral entertainment is required. Sam Wills reached the finals of America's Got Talent in 2016, where his performances accumulated over 220 million views online, and has since held a residency at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Does PepTalk charge a booking fee?

No. PepTalk adds no booking fee, so you pay the speaker's fee and nothing beyond it. The service, from shortlist through to contracts and event-day logistics, is included. For repeat or multi-event bookings, PepTalk can agree preferential rates with your procurement team.

What happens after I send a brief?

Share your event date, audience, format, objectives and budget, and PepTalk sends a hand-picked shortlist within 24 hours. Each suggestion comes with a profile, a fee and a recommendation on the strongest fit. Once you choose, PepTalk handles contracts, travel and logistics through to event day.

What does the typical fee range mean?

The typical fee range is the speaker's standard in-person fee in their home market, shown in their local currency. It moves with format, location, date and session length: virtual sessions and shorter slots usually cost less, while international travel and peak dates cost more. Send your brief to PepTalk and the team will confirm the exact fee in your currency.

Have all the speakers on the website worked with PepTalk before?

Not all of them, and it makes no difference to your booking. PepTalk's network of 15,000+ speakers covers talent the team works with directly alongside speakers represented by agents and agencies worldwide. PepTalk approaches the speaker, negotiates the fee and handles contracting either way.

How far in advance should I book a speaker?

Three to six months ahead is comfortable for most events, and 12 months is better for large conferences, peak-season dates or one specific in-demand speaker. Shorter timelines are workable, and PepTalk regularly fills last-minute and replacement bookings within days. Availability is the constraint, so get in touch as soon as you have a date.
