Tommy Caldwell is widely regarded as one of the world's top big-wall rock climbers, known for his daring free ascents of some of the most challenging climbs. His most notable achievement came after a seven-year pursuit to find a way to free climb the incredibly steep and daunting face of Yosemite's El Capitan. Alongside his climbing partner Kevin Jorgeson, Tommy reached the summit of the Dawn Wall, captivating the world's attention. Even President Obama was moved by their 19-day climb, stating, "You remind us that anything is possible." To accomplish this seemingly impossible feat, Tommy and Kevin spent 19 days living on the side of the 3,000-foot cliff of El Capitan. With nothing but their determination, grit, and exceptional skills, they steadily made their way upwards.
This extraordinary adventure made headlines worldwide in 2000 when Tommy and three others were kidnapped during an expedition in southwest Kyrgyzstan. Surviving for six days without food and very little water, they managed to escape when Tommy pushed their remaining captor off a cliff.
