Andrew Marr is a prominent journalist and broadcaster in the United Kingdom. Until December 2021, he hosted the BBC programme The Andrew Marr Show and Radio 4’s Start the Week. He has edited a national newspaper, led the BBC’s political coverage, and presented various documentaries on political, economic, and cultural history. Andrew is also an accomplished author, writing books accompanying his documentaries and political thrillers. Andrew began his career in journalism at The Scotsman as a trainee and junior business reporter. In 1984, he moved to London, serving as a Parliamentary and Political Correspondent before joining The Independent at its launch in 1986. After a brief period, he contributed to The Economist, eventually becoming its Political Editor in 1986. Andrew returned to The Independent as Political Editor in 1992 and became Editor in 1996. In 1998, he wrote columns for the Daily Express and The Observer while starting his BBC career with the series The Day Britain Died in 2000. He was appointed BBC Political Editor in May 2000, a role he held until after the 2005 general election. After that, he began presenting Sunday AM, later renamed The Andrew Marr Show. He has also presented several BBC documentary series and Radio 4’s Start the Week since 2002. In 2022, Andrew became Political Editor for the New Statesman and began hosting his show on LBC, followed by a show on Classic FM in January 2023. Andrew's notable books include The Battle for Scotland, The Day Britain Died, and A History of Modern Britain. He has received several awards, including Columnist of the Year at the British Press Awards in 1995 and a BAFTA Richard Dimbleby Award in 2004. Andrew lives in north London with his wife and their three children.
