Ed Byrne is a well-known stand-up comedian whose career began at Strathclyde University. As a student welfare officer, he frequently MC'd events, which led to performances at other universities across Scotland. He eventually left his studies to establish a small comedy club in Glasgow. Moving to London, he started anew, performing at open spots and short sets on the club circuit, refining his material and developing his distinctive persona.
Over two decades, Ed has achieved significant success in the UK and Ireland, with sold-out tours and numerous performances at the Edinburgh Fringe. He has also had a successful run in the West End and appeared across various media platforms, including radio, television, and film. Notable highlights include sell-out shows at Dublin's Gaiety and Olympia theatres, a Perrier Award nomination for "A Night at the Opera," and leading roles in productions like "King of the Road." His show "Standing Up and Falling Down" was the top-selling comedy show at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe, and he has released three DVDs: "Pedantic and Whimsical," "Different Class," and "Crowd Pleaser."
Ed has built a substantial international following, performing to full houses in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Belgium, and more. In Canada, he has appeared at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, hosting a gala in 2006 and touring with the festival in 2008. In the US, he has performed at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and in top comedy clubs in New York and Los Angeles, including five appearances on NBC's "Late Night With Conan O'Brien."
In the UK and Ireland, Ed is a familiar face on television and radio, featuring on shows like "The Unbelievable Truth," "Mock the Week," and "Have I Got News for You," as well as making memorable appearances on "The Graham Norton Show."
