Robert Peston is ITV’s Political Editor and the host of the programme "Peston". He covers developments in Westminster and interviews key figures in politics and news. He also co-hosts the podcast "The Rest Is Money" with Steph McGovern, where they discuss economic issues and clarify financial terminology. Before joining ITV, Robert was the BBC’s Economics Editor, where he reported on the implications of economic changes in the UK and abroad. As the BBC’s Business Editor, he broke significant stories related to the global financial crisis, including the issues at Northern Rock and RBS, the rescue of HBOS, and the broader credit crunch and austerity measures. Robert has held important roles at major publications, including City and Assistant Editor of the Sunday Telegraph and Financial Editor of the Financial Times. At the FT, he was part of the editorial board and served as Political Editor and Banking Editor, as well as founding the investigations unit. In addition to his television work, Robert is known for his online journalism and has authored several books, including "How Do We Fix This Mess?" and "Who Runs Britain?", which analyse the 2008 financial crisis. His book "Bust?" addresses the current state of the economy and the need for reform, while his work "WTF?" offers insights into global issues and potential solutions. Robert has received over thirty journalism awards, including the Royal Television Society's Journalist of the Year and the Wincott Prize for financial journalism. He has produced and presented documentaries on various topics, including China’s economy and the EU referendum. Outside journalism, he founded the education charity Speakers for Schools and is Vice President of Hospice UK.
