Samira Ahmed

Samira Ahmed is a journalist and broadcaster who examines how popular culture intersects with politics, science, and social history. She presents Newswatch on BBC One, Front Row on Radio 4, and serves as President of the Twentieth Century Society.

Samira won the British Broadcasting Press Guild Audio Presenter of the Year in 2020 and made Art of Persia for BBC4, the first major Western documentary series filmed in Iran in forty years. She has four honorary doctorates and is an Honorary Fellow of St Edmund Hall, Oxford. Her landmark 2020 employment tribunal victory against the BBC for equal pay established important precedents for freelance workers.

Samira brings three decades of experience as a correspondent, anchor, and interviewer to her work. She has reported from Los Angeles, Belfast, and Berlin, and speaks fluent Hindi, Urdu, German, and French.
