Ann Daniels's biography

At a glance

  • Guinness World Record-holding polar explorer and expedition leader
  • Part of the first women’s team to ski to both Poles
  • Led Arctic expeditions alongside NASA and ESA
Ann Daniels is a record-breaking polar explorer and expedition leader who helps organisations understand resilience, teamwork, and leadership through first-hand experience in some of the world’s harshest environments. Ann began her polar career with no outdoor experience, beating more than 200 applicants to join the McVities Penguin Polar Relay as a mother of 18-month-old triplets. That first expedition led to a 700-mile crossing of Antarctica with four colleagues, making them the first British all-women's team to ski to the South Pole. In 2002, alongside Caroline Hamilton, Ann completed the full journey from land to the Geographic North Pole, the first women's team to do so, enduring temperatures between -40°C and -53°C, three storms, and carbon monoxide poisoning across 47 days on the ice. She has since sledge-hauled more than 3,000 miles over 400 days in polar conditions. Beyond her record-breaking expeditions, Ann served as head of ice operations for all three Catlin Arctic Surveys, leading scientific teams studying the disappearing frozen Arctic Ocean for 74 consecutive days. She has also worked with NASA, the European Space Agency, NOAA, and the University of Washington on polar field research. Ann's presentations draw direct parallels between polar leadership and the challenges organisations face: building high-performing teams, maintaining focus under extreme pressure, and adapting when plans collapse. Audiences leave with a practical understanding of how mindset, decision-making, and team culture determine outcomes in the most demanding conditions imaginable. A Pride of Britain Award recipient and one of The Daily Telegraph's top 20 Great British Adventurers, Ann speaks with credibility earned at the edge of human endurance.

Can PepTalk help plan the speaker programme for my event?

Yes. Beyond booking a single speaker, PepTalk helps shape a full programme, matching voices to your agenda, audience, and goals across a day or a series. It is a consultative service, not just a booking. Tell us about your event at getapeptalk.com.

What does 'typical fee range' mean?

Speaker fees vary based on factors like event location, format, and availability. The 'typical fee range' figure gives you a baseline of someone's local, in-person rate sits, and we'll confirm the exact fee when you get in touch.

What logistics should I prepare before my speakers arrive?

Before your speakers arrive, confirm AV is tested, a green room is ready, and printed schedules are on hand. Prepare warm introductions for each speaker and brief your team on timings. PepTalk speakers come fully briefed, making event-day logistics smoother and stress-free from the start.

What's the difference between a keynote speaker, an MC, and event entertainment?

A keynote speaker delivers an inspiring or informative talk. An MC hosts and guides the event, keeping things on track. Entertainment — like a band or comedian — creates atmosphere and fun. Each serves a different purpose, and PepTalk can help you book the right talent for all three.
