Djahane Banoo's biography

At a glance

  • Award-winning social scientist specialising in high-performance leadership behaviour
  • Coach and trainer for global companies including Google, LEGO, and Apple
  • Conducted research supported by the US and Swiss National Science Foundations
Dr Djahane Banoo is a social scientist, master coach, and psychotherapist who helps leaders and teams navigate the human dynamics that determine our performance under pressure. Drawing on neuroscience, sociology, communication theory, trauma-informed psychology, and Zen Buddhist practice, Djahane's work is both science-based and deeply experiential. Participants don’t just learn concepts; they learn to recognise their patterns in real time, regulate themselves under stress, and communicate in ways that build trust and sustainable performance. Over two decades, Djahane has coached and trained leaders at Google, LEGO, BlackRock, Salesforce, Novartis, Apple, and Warner Bros. She earned her BA from Dartmouth College (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and holds an MS and PhD in development sociology from Cornell University. She currently serves as a guest lecturer at ETH Zurich, and her research has been supported by the US and Swiss National Science Foundations, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and others. Djahane specialises in helping people perform under pressure, navigate difficult conversations, and lead through coaching rather than control. Her approach moves beyond formulaic leadership advice to address what actually shapes behaviour: how we regulate ourselves under stress, how we show up in high-stakes moments, and how we build trust through the way we communicate. Participants learn to recognise their patterns in real time and develop the capacity for sustainable performance. Audiences leave Djahane's workshops with practical tools for self-regulation, clearer insight into their relational patterns, and specific techniques for building trust and psychological safety in their teams. Her sessions are rigorous, alive, and immediately applicable to the challenges leaders face daily. Book Dr Djahane Banoo for science-based, transformative leadership development that creates lasting change in how your people work together.

Topics, sessions and talks

Stress Techniques For High-Impact Situations
Dr Djahane Banoo's session focuses on equipping professionals with effective techniques to manage stress in high-pressure situations, such as public speaking, tight deadlines, and unexpected criticism. Attendees will learn practical tools to maintain calmness, clarity, and confidence in moments of vulnerability. By enhancing these skills, participants will not only improve their wellbeing but also increase their effectiveness as trusted partners to leaders and teams. This workshop is perfect for those in fast-paced, high-visibility roles seeking to boost their composure and impact.
Navigating Feedback And Difficult Conversations
Dr Djahane Banoo shares how a poorly handled conversation can harm relationships and motivation, while a skilful one can enhance trust and accountability. The key lies not in word choice but in understanding emotional regulation and the brain's response to threats. This workshop equips attendees with a practical communication toolkit for managing feedback and difficult conversations. Participants will learn to remain calm, ensure their message is heard, and practice navigating challenging discussions effectively, fostering trust and driving action.
Self-Management In Complex Work Environments
In her workshop, Dr Djahane Banoo addresses the productivity challenges faced by modern professionals managing long-term projects and competing priorities. She highlights that these challenges stem from psychology and stress rather than laziness. By combining practical productivity tools with self-reflection on habits and energy management, attendees will learn to differentiate between valuable work and distractions. Participants will gain insights into their optimal working styles and acquire practical tools to enhance clarity, focus, and ease in their work environments.
Coaching As A Leadership Skill
Dr Djahane Banoo's workshop is tailored for group and team leaders seeking innovative ways to guide their employees through ongoing change. As organisations adapt to the digital age, leadership models are shifting from top-down approaches to coaching. This style promotes a learning culture by prioritising questions over directives, fostering staff growth, and enhancing engagement. Attendees will learn coaching fundamentals, explore effective principles, and practice essential skills, ultimately boosting productivity, employee wellbeing, and retention.
The Neuroscience Of Executive Presence
Dr Djahane Banoo's workshop on executive presence delves into the interplay of confidence, authority, and gravitas. It examines how internal clarity influences external behaviours, such as voice and posture. Participants will explore the psychology and neuroscience behind this concept, learning to cultivate an authentic presence rather than merely faking confidence. Through practical exercises, attendees will gain tools to enhance their presence in meetings and presentations, making it ideal for both emerging and senior leaders seeking to increase their impact while remaining true to themselves.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Djahane for several years in our Master’s programme at ETH Zurich. While she serves as a lecturer, what she delivers goes far beyond tools and frameworks — she helps our participants develop the life and leadership skills needed to become stronger teammates and more thoughtful professionals. Djahane is highly engaging, and our students consistently describe her workshops as a highlight of the programme. The feedback has been so positive that she now also leads our onboarding experience — the very first touchpoint with our students. She has a rare ability to make complex concepts tangible and immediately applicable. Her sessions are challenging, practical, and deeply impactful. I can wholeheartedly recommend her to any organisation seeking meaningful and lasting development.

Djahane brings a rare combination of intellectual depth, empathy, and practical structure to her work. What stood out immediately was her ability to listen deeply and translate complex communication challenges into clear, actionable frameworks. Her sessions reshaped how I approach high-stakes presentations — focusing on clarity over cleverness and impact over performance. The shift in my thinking has stayed with me long after the programme ended.
