Mark Freeman's biography

At a glance

  • Mental fitness trainer transforming psychology into practical skills
  • Author of You Are Not a Rock published internationally
  • Founder of online community Everybody Has a Brain

Mark Freeman is a mental fitness trainer and human-centred design facilitator who has dedicated his career to helping people develop the skills to manage change and strengthen their mental health. Drawing from his own experience of recovering from mental illness, Mark has built a practice that combines evidence-based tools with accessible, practical guidance.

Mark is the author of The Mind Workout, published internationally and known in the United States as You Are Not a Rock. His work has reached audiences in more than ten countries, and he continues to share practical methods for mental fitness through writing, coaching and workshops. He co-founded the online community Everybody Has a Brain, and has served as a Stanford Medicine X ePatient Scholar. His career has also included contributions to mental health policy and practice, such as helping to develop clinical care guidelines in Ontario.

Mark's work focuses on enabling others to make and sustain meaningful changes in their lives. Mark’s approach is not about therapy but about equipping people with the skills to navigate life’s challenges, emphasising that mental health, like physical health, requires proactive training rather than reactive treatment. His perspective combines personal insight, design thinking and lived experience, making his work both relatable and impactful for individuals and organisations alike.

Audiences leave Mark's presentations with concrete tools to identify and modify unhelpful mental patterns, practical strategies to maintain mental fitness during high-stress periods, and frameworks for creating supportive environments that normalize mental health conversations.

What is Mark Freeman's speaking style like?

What topics does Mark Freeman specialise in?

Mark Freeman speaks on mental fitness, stress management and building supportive environments for mental health conversations. He is the author of The Mind Workout (published internationally as You Are Not a Rock) and has served as a Stanford Medicine X ePatient Scholar, with his work reaching audiences in more than ten countries.

Does PepTalk charge a booking fee?

No. PepTalk adds no booking fee, so you pay the speaker's fee and nothing beyond it. The service, from shortlist through to contracts and event-day logistics, is included. For repeat or multi-event bookings, PepTalk can agree preferential rates with your procurement team.

What happens after I send a brief?

Share your event date, audience, format, objectives and budget, and PepTalk sends a hand-picked shortlist within 24 hours. Each suggestion comes with a profile, a fee and a recommendation on the strongest fit. Once you choose, PepTalk handles contracts, travel and logistics through to event day.

What does the typical fee range mean?

The typical fee range is the speaker's standard in-person fee in their home market, shown in their local currency. It moves with format, location, date and session length: virtual sessions and shorter slots usually cost less, while international travel and peak dates cost more. Send your brief to PepTalk and the team will confirm the exact fee in your currency.

Have all the speakers on the website worked with PepTalk before?

Not all of them, and it makes no difference to your booking. PepTalk's network of 15,000+ speakers covers talent the team works with directly alongside speakers represented by agents and agencies worldwide. PepTalk approaches the speaker, negotiates the fee and handles contracting either way.

How far in advance should I book a speaker?

Three to six months ahead is comfortable for most events, and 12 months is better for large conferences, peak-season dates or one specific in-demand speaker. Shorter timelines are workable, and PepTalk regularly fills last-minute and replacement bookings within days. Availability is the constraint, so get in touch as soon as you have a date.
