Andy Roe is a transformational leader who guided the London Fire Brigade from crisis to excellence as Commissioner from 2020 to 2025, combining frontline emergency experience with strategic vision for institutional reform.
As Commissioner, Andy led one of the world's largest emergency services with 6,300 staff and a £510 million budget. A former British Army Captain commissioned from Sandhurst, he served as Northern Ireland Operations Officer before joining London Fire Brigade in 2002. Under his leadership, LFB progressed from special measures to become the UK's most improved fire service, and in 2024 Andy was awarded the King's Fire Service Medal for his leadership through one of the brigade's most challenging periods.
In 2026, Andy was created Baron Roe of West Wickham, recognising his 23-year fire service career and his role chairing the Building Safety Regulator. He also serves as a non-executive director of GB (Olympic) Boxing, sits on the King's College London Impact Board, and advises Transport for London.
