Brad Scanes | Speaker Biography

Max Verstappen’s F1 performance coach for five years
Physiotherapist specialising in performance optimisation
Director of Elite Formula Physio and Training

Brad Scanes is a high-performance coach with extensive experience in elite sports, having played a pivotal role in the success of world-class athletes across multiple disciplines. His expertise in physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, recovery, and mental resilience has helped drive Olympic gold medal-winning performances and multiple Formula 1 World Championship victories.

Beginning his career in the UK’s National Health Service after earning a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and an MSc in Physiotherapy, he soon transitioned into professional sport. His early work with Southend United FC and Chelmsford City Football Club led to wider opportunities, including working with elite athletes in UFC, boxing, and cycling. He later joined Team GB Basketball as a physiotherapist before becoming a performance coach for Team GB Gymnastics. He played a crucial role in Max Whitlock’s World Championship and Olympic gold medal-winning achievements.

In 2019, Brad joined Red Bull Racing as a performance coach to Max Verstappen. Over five seasons, he provided the physical and mental conditioning needed to sustain Verstappen’s dominance in Formula 1, supporting him through an intense 2021 title fight and subsequent championship victories. His expertise ensured the driver maintained peak performance, focusing on strength, endurance, reaction time, and recovery to meet the extreme demands of the sport.

After stepping away from the relentless schedule of Formula 1 in 2024, Brad expanded his role to consultancy across motorsport and endurance racing. He has since worked with teams competing in events such as the Le Mans and Daytona 24 Hours and continues his involvement with Red Bull’s UK-based athletes.

Brad’s insights into high-performance training, mental resilience, and elite-level preparation make him a sought-after speaker. Drawing from years of experience at the pinnacle of the motorsport, he shares strategies for optimising performance, managing pressure, and cultivating a winning mindset, applicable to athletes, leaders and teams striving for excellence in any field.
