He is the gardening and plant expert on BBC One's Morning Live, appears on Gardeners' World, and covers the Royal Horticultural Society shows at Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace for the BBC. He writes regular columns for the Daily Express and Waitrose Weekend, and has written three books, Royal Gardens Of The World, The Future Of Gardens, and The Thrifty Gardener. The University of Kent awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2022 for his contribution to horticulture and media.
Mark was born with spina bifida and, after a car accident in 2000 and a series of spinal operations, retrained in garden design during his rehabilitation. He now designs gardens that work for people with a range of physical needs, and speaks about what accessible outdoor space does for wellbeing. He is an ambassador for the National Trust, Thrive, Groundwork, the Melanoma Fund, and the Gardening with Disabilities Trust.
