David Whitney was born in Aberdeen into a military family, spending his childhood moving between army camps across the globe. He attended Gordons, a military school in Surrey, where he mastered the bagpipes and picked up an English accent. Initially on track to join the British Army, he made a last-minute pivot, choosing the drama school path instead. Drama Centre London became his new home, where he trained from 1998 to 2001 under the guidance of renowned mentors Christopher Fettes and Yat Malmgren.
David's love for theatre flourished after graduation, performing Shakespearean roles like Mercutio and MacDuff across the UK. However, his path took a sharp turn when, in a bid to impress an agent, he slightly exagerrated his experiences and landed his first stand-up gig at the prestigious Friars Club in Beverly Hills. This marked the beginning of his comedic journey, and he has since become a regular at top comedy venues around the UK and beyond.
Outside of comedy, David's bagpiping skills have also led him to perform at major events, including Gwen Stefani’s wedding, the Royal Tournament, and Queen Elizabeth Hall. Despite his success in stand-up, he remains active in acting, with roles in the BAFTA-winning comedy Fonejacker and recent films like Lair, alongside Oded Fehr. His work in independent cinema has also garnered attention, with his feature film GUARDIANS winning 18 awards and becoming available on Sky Box Office and iTunes.
David’s comedy blends sharp political satire with a dose of cheeky humour, making him a favourite for those who enjoy witty, irreverent takes on the world around them. His quick wit and engaging delivery always leave audiences laughing and wanting more.
