Penny Wincer is an author and non-fiction book coach based in London, originally from Melbourne. After 15 years as a freelance interiors photographer, she began writing about her experiences as a single parent and unpaid carer while managing a creative career. Her work has appeared in Red Magazine, iPaper, BBC Radio 4, and The Telegraph.
In 2020, Penny published her first book, Tender: The Art of Imperfect Caring, which The Times described as urgent and timely. Her work often reflects the challenges of caring for others, a reality faced by millions in the UK and beyond. In Tender, she shares her journey as a carer for her mother and her autistic son, emphasising the importance of self-care in the caregiving process. By blending personal stories with research on resilience and self-compassion, she offers a hopeful perspective on the often-overlooked experiences of carers.
As a certified writing coach Penny also helps writers develop compelling non-fiction book proposals. She also hosts the podcast Not Too Busy To Write, which was a finalist in the 2023 Independent Podcast Awards.
Penny has extensive experience speaking about unpaid caregiving with various organisations, including Omnicom Group, Scottish Power, Carers UK, and Hachette. She has also delivered talks at numerous festivals. Contact the PepTalk team today for fee information and a speaker availability check.
