Dermot Murnaghan is a journalist and broadcaster. He is currently the news anchor and presenter for Sky News Today. He began his journalism career before moving into television broadcasting, gaining prominence for breaking the news of Princess Diana's death in 1997.
Murnaghan has held various roles in the media industry. He started at ITV, presenting lunchtime, nightly, and evening news bulletins for 11 years and played a key role in covering the 2001 General Election. At the BBC, he hosted programmes such as BBC Breakfast, Treasure Hunt, Eggheads, and The State We’re In. He also presented Crimes That Shook Britain on CI.
His achievements include winning the Royal Television Society's Interviewer of the Year Award for his interview with Peter Mandelson, which resulted in Mandelson's resignation from the Cabinet. He received the Newscaster of the Year Award from TRIC for his work at ITN. Before joining ITN's Lunchtime News, he regularly presented Channel 4 News and hosted five series of The Big Story on ITV. He was also a reporter for Channel 4's Business Programme and co-presented ITV's Sport Awards.
Murnaghan completed an MA in History from Sussex University and pursued a postgraduate course in Journalism at City University. He is married to journalist Maria Keegan and has four children: Kitty, Molly, Alice, and Jack. He is an Arsenal fan and enjoys cycling in his free time.
